Balloon Flower question by tracy: Ideas for elegant intimate 70th Birthday Party for Mom?
I planned a 70th Birthday Bash for my Mother in Law in May, it was over the top, used every color in the rainbow, balloon bouquets, flowers, cake, finger food, non-alcoholic punch, lots of people – it fit her personality. I don’t know why, but that one was easy.

My mother’s 70th is in November, and I am having a hard time planning a small, elegant and intimate party for just family. Ideas? She is a true southern “Lady”, enjoys finer things, eye for quality, prefers simplicity, and loves her family — I was thinking about a standing rib roast, several courses, various wines with each course … Suggestions? Ideas?

Thank you for the ideas. Thought I should note that 70 isn’t as “old” as young people seem to think .

I guess I should have just asked for menu and decorating ideas for a very elegant dinner party and not said anything about mom’s birthday.

My fiance and I are having a private wedding ceremony and having our reception/party about one month later. Our colors for the reception pink, red, and white and we have came up with the idea to use Cyclinder vases and put fake red, white, and pink roses in it and decorate the table with silk rose petals … Is that too plain? do i need more? i just want something outstanding. We are using table covers and plan on getting a Balloon Arch and a Collage and decorate it with lights… i need more ideas… im confused.. HELP ME PLS

i dont think it is too plain but i do think you need something else on the tables. what we are doing for our wedding next year is this…..we are taking black 8×10 frames on each table with just a random picture of me and my fiance of different snap shots. totally different and inexpensive.

I am throwing a 1st birthday party for my son. He loves balls and balloons so I was thinking about using these as themes. Does anyone have any games, party favor, decoration, etc. ideas?

If you are using latex balloons you will of course want them where the children cannot reach them. Take two colors of crepe paper, attach to a corner of the ceiling, and then keep flipping it over (twisting) so that the colors alternate. (Looks really nice!) Repeat for other corners of room, going to a focal point (such as a hanging lamp). Attach the balloons with scotch tape. I’ve done this before in out kitchen, taping the balloons to a Tiffany-style hanging lamp over the table and bringing the crepe paper to the lamp. Hope this gives you some ideas.

You could make a balloon archway using pink, white and lavender balloons. This will be a 2 person job. Supplies needed; Small helium tank, three diffrent colors of 12″ balloons, ribboon sold for balloons ( comes in a roll of 500 ft.), a box large enough to cut out a 9 or 10 inche hole and 2 bricks. First cut a hole , the size indicated, into one side of the box.Now inflate the first balloon with the helium. don’t secure yet. Place the balloon in the hole 1/2 way through, releasing the amount of helium needed fo a proper fit.Now secure with a very tight knot.Take the ribbon color that matches the balloon an cut about 3 ft. length and fold in 1/2 and tie it to the (I’m going to refer to balloons as “B” ) B. Cut a piece of ribbon MUCH longer than you think you’ll need for the arch. Tie one end to a chair and the other end to another chair across the room. Take the B an tie it to this ribbon. Inflate the next B of another color and proceed as above using matching ribbon. Attach this B so it side is just touching the last B. Continue along in this manner until you have enough B’s on the ribbon for the height or the archway you need.Test by releasing one side of the ribbon and placing it on the floor to see how high it arches. When pleased, attach each end of the long ribbon to a brick and move to the location. Cover the bricks decoratively, curl the ribbon streamers by running the edge of a butter knife along the length. Trim if too long. Hope I was clear.
